The lyrics of leaving somewhere that needs you to not be the person you really resonate with how I felt leaving behind the church I went to for years. This feels like overcoming religious trauma. This song is still an absolute banger, but hearing a grown up Taylor Swift in this song made me kind of sad because it reminded me that I’m an adult now and I got in my feels about it.

Listening to the Red album was super nostalgic, not just because of the fact that these songs have been out for a while and so we already know them, but because hearing Swift’s older voice recount the heartbreak, excitement, and storm of emotions she felt at 21 and 22 feels nothing short of comforting. Following the 2020 break away from her former record label, she sought to re-release new versions of all her albums, along with unreleased original songs. To put it a different way, this could have been a great deal better had the tune taken a different approach it makes me wish that Swift had written it to cover a wider range of emotions, things experienced in love or life that goes beyond mere romance. But still, the story Swift spins dates itself, being again about a dizzying turn of a relationship. The concept of putting colors to parallel our emotions is a clever one. Unlike ‘Begin Again,’ here, Taylor reverts more to the sound of her “youthful” lyrical songs because of its “tragic” love story scenario but that didn’t diminish the fun because for me, I am just happy that we are getting a more “solid” lyrical story and quality. The sound and words that accompany the instruments fit perfect and fabulously so! Like ‘ Begin Again,’ the song pays more of a tribute to her country roots. That’s not to say that ‘Red’ comes across as one of my “top ten” tunes because, it really isn’t but I have to admit, there is something about it that is pleasant. The third song to release from Swift’s upcoming album (also Red), so far, it may be my favorite – perhaps even my favorite song from the country darling yet.
